Smith n Beebs go deeper down the shred hole and catch up with Dave Brons. They ask him about his experience learning at the Guitar Institute in London. The guys also discuss flying with guitars, and Beebee's upcoming trip to the magical Fibenare factory in Hungary.
Subject: Road worn telecaster
I’m an engineer from Australia and sometimes work on remote mining sites in the outback. Basically, I have to work for 21 days straight (5am to 4pm) then fly back home for 7 days before repeating the process… Living quarters are a camp of ‘dongers’, which are tiny individual rooms with just enough space for a bed, shower and miniature desk. To pass the time and keep myself sane back at camp, I bring my guitar, iPad with audio interface and a pair of headphones.
The aeroplanes we fly in are tiny propeller planes and luggage handling is often very forceful. On one flight, I went to retrieve my guitar and found it completely smashed in two. So I had a cunning solution. I bought a $150 Greco copy telecaster; with no case. When the baggage handler (who sometimes was the same guy as the pilot) saw that it was a guitar and not just a black rectangular box, he treated it well and sometimes even found a safe place to put it in the cabin.
Anyway, so I’m done with my site work for the moment and am back in sunny Brisbane city. Anyone want to buy a $200 ‘road worn’ Greco telecaster?
